Val Clifton co-ordinates a team of over 40 Christ Church Contacts who deliver Christmas, Easter and Harvest cards to regular worshippers at Christ Church and to others with a more occasional connection. They also take flowers, or a similar gift, bringing good wishes to church members who have returned from a stay in hospital.

PASTORAL CARE – Christ Church

Rhona Winter and the Pastoral Care Team work under the guidance of our Rector. Together with the Rector and the Readers, we visit, phone, listen to and pray with the sick, housebound, bereaved and anyone of the church family (or literally anyone!) who needs a listening ear. We are always glad to welcome new members to the Pastoral Care Team. Please continue to keep us informed about anyone who needs a visit by contacting Rhona on 01275 855718, 07779 933959 or

Jean Roberts and Clare McLaren are part of the Tickenham Pastoral Care Group under the leadership of the Rector. They meet from time to time to share their thoughts and possible ways which they can help the people in their parishes. Usually this is by paying visits to people at home or in hospital when they cannot get to church. We also take Home Communion to those who ask for it, once a month or in emergencies. In Tickenham, we appreciate the support of the Good Neighbours organisation and other concerned inhabitants who inform us of anyone in need.

Contemplative Prayer is about coming away from our life’s involvements to be entirely with the Lord God. It is to sit, kneel or stand in God’s presence, just being with him. As a modern songwriter has put it; ‘To be in your Presence; to sit at your feet; where your love surrounds me, and makes me complete. this is my desire, O Lord…’ This is, too, a time of silence.  Prayers for people, causes, concerns, situations are left for another time. Contemplative Prayer is being with God in the ‘silence of eternity’; waiting on Him.

Contemplative Prayer Meetings happen once each month alternating between Christ Church, Nailsea and Tickenham Church, usually on the 4th Wednesday of the month. If you would like more information please contact Maurice Eveleigh on 01275 852559 or e-mail

Maurice, Judith and Beryl prepare a bi-monthly leaflet, for our members, containing Bible verses, prayer topics and the names of all group members, spread over the seven days of the week, so that each day 5 or 6 people are prayed for by name, have a Bible verse about our God, and a verse about our need; plus local church and wider world issues prayed for.
